We received an enquiry about importing a Porsche originally from the Middle East. While we handle many of vehicles from the EU, UK, and USA every month, this one came with an interesting twist: the car was currently running on Swedish plates.

Even though the vehicle was already physically inside the EU, it lacked EU Type Approval. To get a non-EU spec Porsche through the Spanish ITV inspection without full individual homologation, it had to be processed as a Transfer of Residency (cambio de residencia). “It’s already in the EU!” I hear you cry. Yes, exactly—but because its original factory spec is Middle Eastern, a residency transfer is the only pathway that allows the ITV station to inspect and approve non-EU conformity to register a Porsche in Spain. This is a Spain thing and not an EU wide thing.
